About

Hi, I’m Maya, and welcome to Viking Baking Bliss!

I’m a Swedish home baker, cook, working mom, and food enthusiast who believes that some of life’s most meaningful moments happen around the table. Whether it’s the smell of freshly baked cinnamon buns, a homemade family dinner, or a simple afternoon coffee break, food has always been my way of bringing people together.

My love for cooking began early. Growing up in Sweden, I was fortunate to learn from my father, a fine dining chef, whose passion for food taught me the importance of quality ingredients, traditional techniques, and the joy of creating something truly special. Watching him work inspired me to appreciate both the artistry and the comfort that great food can bring.

Later in life, my culinary world expanded even further when I met my husband, who is from Iran. Through him and his family, I discovered the rich traditions of Persian cuisine—beautifully fragrant dishes, warm hospitality, and recipes filled with history and love. Today, many of the meals in our home are inspired by both Scandinavian and Persian traditions, creating a kitchen filled with multicultural influences and flavors from around the world.

As a wife, mother, and full-time working woman, I also understand how busy everyday life can be. Between work, family responsibilities, and everything else life brings, there isn’t always time for complicated recipes or hours spent in the kitchen. That’s why most of the recipes you’ll find here are designed for real life—simple enough for busy weekdays, delicious enough for special occasions, and made to be enjoyed by the whole family.

I started Viking Baking Bliss because I wanted to create a place where I could share the recipes, traditions, and food memories that have shaped my life. This blog is a reflection of my kitchen: deeply rooted in Scandinavian baking, inspired by Persian flavors, and influenced by food cultures from around the globe.

Here you’ll find everything from traditional Swedish pastries and rustic breads to comforting family meals, seasonal favorites, and recipes inspired by my multicultural home. Every recipe is carefully tested in my own kitchen and written with clear instructions so that home cooks of all experience levels can achieve great results.

When I’m not baking or cooking, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, working in my garden, planning new recipes, or enjoying a quiet coffee break with something homemade on the side. These simple moments of everyday life inspire much of what I share here.

My hope is that Viking Baking Bliss becomes more than just a recipe collection. I hope it inspires you to gather around the table, try something new, create your own traditions, and discover a little bit of Scandinavian coziness along the way.

Thank you for visiting my kitchen. I’m so glad you’re here.

Happy baking,

Maya
The Viking behind Viking Baking Bliss

A close-up, side-angle photographic shot of a glossy cardamom braid bread, intricately woven with visible flecks of spice in the golden dough, resting on a parchment-lined dark metal baking tray. The tray sits on a cool concrete countertop in a minimalist Nordic kitchen, where matte white cabinets and pale wood shelves appear softly out of focus. Warm pendant lighting from above and cooler natural light from a nearby window blend to create gentle highlights on the braided curves and subtle shadows between strands. The mood is cozy yet sophisticated, with a shallow depth of field isolating the bread as the hero subject, emphasizing shine, crumb texture, and the artisanal craft of Nordic baking.
An elegant winter-inspired dessert spread on a long, narrow oak board: thin slices of Norwegian kransekake rings artfully arranged alongside small ceramic bowls of lingonberry jam and whipped cream, with sprigs of juniper and star anise scattered for subtle decoration. The board rests on a linen-draped table in muted taupe, set before a large window where faint snow-covered rooftops can be seen softly blurred outside. Cool natural daylight from the window combines with a warm table lamp glow to produce balanced, nuanced lighting with gentle highlights on the almond-rich cake. Photographic realism, shot at eye level with a slight diagonal composition, creating a sophisticated hygge atmosphere that feels both festive and understated.
An overhead photographic view of a dark rye sourdough loaf sliced to reveal its dense, moist crumb dotted with seeds, surrounded by scattered rye flour and whole grains on a matte charcoal slate board. The crust is deeply baked to a rich mahogany with delicate cracking. The board rests on a light ash wood table, with a small stoneware dish of cultured Nordic butter and a slender stainless steel bread knife placed precisely along the rule of thirds. Diffused overcast window light creates a soft, even illumination, enhancing the rustic textures while keeping the mood refined and contemplative. The composition feels minimalist yet generous, with sharp focus on the bread and a subtly blurred kitchen background.

Recensioner

A serene Scandinavian kitchen corner featuring an elegant arrangement of baking ingredients for traditional Nordic cookies: a brushed steel mixing bowl partially filled with pale dough, a vintage-style brass measuring spoon set dusted with flour, a small pile of crushed cardamom pods, and a dark honey jar with a wooden dipper resting against it. All elements sit on a smooth light oak countertop beside a matte white tiled backsplash. Soft golden hour sunlight streams through an unseen window, creating long, gentle shadows and a warm, inviting glow. Shot from a slightly elevated angle with balanced composition, the scene is sharply focused on the ingredients while the far background gradually softens. Photographic realism with a clean, sophisticated atmosphere that suggests quiet, contemplative preparation.

Tack vare era tydliga steg-för-steg-beskrivningar vågade jag äntligen prova lussekatter. Nu känns avancerad nordisk bakning fullt möjlig, och familjen ber redan om nästa sats.

A dramatic, low-angle photographic composition of an open Scandinavian oven door revealing a tray of golden Lucia saffron buns baking, their surfaces glistening and beginning to caramelize. The interior of the oven is dark slate with subtle reflections, while the buns glow warmly under the internal oven light. The edge of a pale wood cabinet and a sleek stainless steel handle frame the scene, keeping the setting distinctly modern Nordic. Steam curls gently upward, catching the light and creating a soft haze near the top of the frame. The mood is intimate and anticipatory, with rich contrasts between warm yellows and deep shadows, rendered in high-resolution realism with a sophisticated, contemporary kitchen atmosphere.

Jag har alltid älskat fika, men med era recept på rågbröd och småkakor känner jag mig som en riktig viking i köket – trygg, stolt och nyfiken på mer.
